The second album I reviewed for Acclaim Mag was my current fav so I dedided to go against the grain and pick my current fav dance album by David Guetta!

DAVID GUETTA - POP LIFE

Now i've never really been one to dig dance music accept for the occassional rave here and there but a trip to bali and Guetta changed all of that. The first time i heard Guetta was when a buddy of mine was bumping "the world is mine" on the villa stereo. The moment JD Davis sings "The world is mine" and guetta's eletrobeat kicks in i was hooked. After searching for his debut Ghetto blaster that had that monster hit I came across his latest release Pop Life. Now pop life is simply that! Good pop hooks with simple lyrics about everyday live. This is Guetta's genius. He knows how to play with the listeners emotions by throwing curveball electrosynth beats with melodies and lyrics that you find hard not to forget. From the opener "Baby when the lights go out" i knew he was taking it to another level.

The album is full of pure dancefloor anthems that makes this one of those albums you just have to listen from start to end. That alone sums up the sheer brilliance of it. As a non-dance music fan I would say that this album bridges the gap that exists between mainstream pop and club/dance anthems. The fact that "Love is Gone" has become one of the few dance tracks since the days of Fatboy Slim to cross over to maintsream pop radio in the US attests to that. The only problem with this album is in its brilliance as Guetta's formula of great hooks and electrosynth beats can get tiring if you're looking for something with variety. Pop Life is best served with an all night bender with your mates or if you just simply want something to party to. The standout tracks on this release for me are "baby when the lights go out", "Delirious", "Do something Love", "This is not a love song" and of course his worldwide hit "Love is gone".Expect to hear and see more of guetta if this album is just a taste of what he has to offer in the future.

I reviewed two albums for Australian Magazine "Acclaim Mag"...one of which was my all time fav pick and since i've been a Rage'holic for years i decided to review my fav album from the fearsome foursome...here it is:-

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE - BATTLE OF LOS ANGELES

I can still remember the day i first heard rage against the machines....it was about 13 yrs ago in a friends car. At the time "The judgement night" soundtrack was the hottest thing floating around all budding garage bands and hip hop emcees. As a young punk trying to blend hip hop with rock....rage showed me the path...from the opening lines of "I was hooked and became a true rageholic...now having been a Rage fan ever since...looking back it really is a tough decision for me to pick my all time fav release from the revolutionary rockers to review. Which is my fav? The one that got me started...the explosive follow up...the covers album or the grand finale? Most Rage fans i know would pick "evil empire" as the best and no doubt it contains some the most fiery rage tracks ever written but guess my choice has to be "The battle of los angeles" for one reason and one reason only...Zack's flow...having stuck to his trademark jagged running flows in the last 3 releases, Zack took a revolutionary way forward vocally by replacing his vocaly stylings with more spoken word flows that are poetic yet laced with melody. These vocal stylings are evident in tracks like "Sleep now in the fire", "Voice of the voiceless", "born of a broken man" and "Born as ghosts" which for me personally are some of the standout ones on the album.

Two others that deffinitely meet the mark and are my top 2 are "Calm Like a Bomb" and "Mic Check" which unlike the earlier few have all the existing Rage formulas of catchy hooks, riffs and tom's trademark solos but with added spice. Lines like " the riot be the rhyme of the unheard" and Tim's thundering bassline make "Calm Like a Bomb" a rage track that culminates in utter chaos..."watcha say watcha say what?" still rings even when the track has stopped playing!! Mic Check on the hand is rage hip hop ala "Bullet in your head" (from their first album) but perfected. Tom's catchy riffs take a backseat here but Tim's basslines and Zack's flows make this a true club banger. The numerous remixes by Dj Muggs and DJ Shadow that have been circulating the mixtape circuit attest to that. The other tracks seem to be just uninspired fillers to make this effort a full length release. It could also have been due to the strains in the band's relationship as they broke up less than a year later. All in all the band is back and we're all waiting patiently for a follow up...tick tock....tick....tock

Here's the Gotcha we played on Rahul from One Buck Short...It was hilarious...sorry buddy but I just had to get ya...Tks to the Panic boys for really getting into it.....
I had a blast presenting at the MTV Asia Awards 2008. It was kinda last minute cos MTV decided to have the 3 frontman from south east asian rock bands present so it was David (Electrico), Miguel (Chicosci) and me (Pop Shuvit). I missed the rehearsals so I had to wing it live with the teleprompter but it all went well and it made it all the more amazing when i got to present an award to Ryan Tedder and One Republic. Check out the video!
